Editor’s Letter:
Ireland is not short on coverage.
The Wild Atlantic Way has been photographed from every angle. The Ring of Kerry has its own traffic problem. Dublin's Temple Bar exists in a permanent state of being written about. The Ireland that appears in travel supplements is a version of the island that has been thoroughly edited for international consumption - the cliffs, the pubs, the rolling green, the craic.
This edit goes somewhere else.
To an estate in County Offaly where a Victorian earl ground a 72-inch mirror by hand and built the largest telescope on Earth - and where a young engineer named Bindon Blood Stoney studied before returning to Dublin to build the quay walls that the city still uses today. His brother coined the term electron. The earl's son invented the steam turbine.
To a salmon river in Connemara where the maharaja of Nawanagar spent his summers. To a Georgian spa in Wexford that Condé Nast places in the top three worldwide.
To a Michelin-starred restaurant on the River Lagan where two chefs who met at Arpège in Paris came home to build something that Belfast had never had.
And to a Victorian diving bell on Sir John Rogerson's Quay that built a city and that almost nobody stops to look at.
Ireland's genius has often been slightly hidden. This edit is about five of its better hiding places.
— James

From The Reset Series™
If you missed this week's Vitae Weekly Reset, we looked at the heat — what it does to the body, what the evidence says about protecting yourself, and what most people are getting wrong during a UK heatwave.
Melanoma cases have hit an all-time high — nearly 21,000 a year, up by almost a third in a decade, more than 80% preventable. Most people apply a quarter of the sunscreen they think they are applying. The UV index in London this week reached 8. And the most effective intervention for sleeping in a heatwave starts during the day, not at bedtime.
